Jimmie Vaughan is an international roots-blues
rock sensation, having founded The Fabulous Thunderbirds, toured globally
for years, and played with the greatest musicians of all time (including
brother Stevie Ray Vaughan). He is a Grammy Award recipient.
I had seen Jimmie Vaughan a few times before, such as at BB King's Blues
Festival, Sea World, San Antonio Texas September 19, 1997, as well as
Antone's, Austin, Texas, but on July 6, 2004, I had the privilege of seeing
him up close at The Birchmere, Alexandria, Virginia. As an added
bonus, Austin's Queen of The Blues, Lou Ann Barton was on tour, belting out
her classic hits and looking fine in her black form fitting pants.
Jimmie's Tilt-A-Whirl band consisting of drummer great
George Rains,
rhythm guitarist
Billy
Pitman, and Hammond B-3 organ player
Bill Willis,
joined by Nick Curran,
an R&B and jump blues artist out of Austin, made for a
wonderful, well received performance!
Jimmie is part of a musical dynasty that includes his legendary guitar
playing brother Stevie Ray, who as any that follow guitar know, left this
world way too soon.
Jimmie (and Lou Ann Barton) carry on the rich tradition of Texas
Blues, and based on what I saw at The Birchmere, have a lot of mileage left.
