At first flash of Eden, we race down to the sea.
Standing there on Freedom's Shore.
Waiting for the Sun
Can you feel it now that spring has come.
And it's time to live in the scattered sun.
Waiting for the Sun
Waiting.... Waiting.... Waiting.... Waiting....

The Lizard King Was Here: The Life And Times Of Jim Morrison In Alexandria, Virginia

THE LIZARD KING WAS HERE is an in-depth study of a greatly overlooked period in the mercurial life of Jim Morrison, the late poet and lyricist-vocalist of the rock and roll band “The Doors” who died at the age of 27 in 1971. Examining Morrison’s life from January 1959 to August 1961 - the years he resided in Alexandria, Virginia and attended George Washington High School - author Mark Opsasnick reveals a wealth of experiences that served to influence the singer’s poetry, lyrics, and work as a performing artist with the Doors. The end result is a fresh look at a formative period in the life of one of rock and roll’s greatest superstars. Dedicated fans of Jim Morrison will be enthralled with THE LIZARD KING WAS HERE.

Mark Opsasnick interview for Doors.com about the book, his taste in music, why he writes about musical, and indeed life influencers like Jim Morrison.
The article opens with:
"It's safe to say that Jim Morrison will never leave the stage of our collective consciousness. We are endlessly fascinated with the lead singer of the Doors because he still projects a dark shadowy image hard to grasp and appealing in its mystery, particularly to
adolescents who are just realizing that the world may not be as it seems and trying to figure out how they fit in. The question sooner or later on every fan's mind---just who was Morrison exactly?"

The Washington Post ran an extensive article on Mark that may be viewed by clicking here.

The Soft Parade is a Doors tribute band founded in 1990 by lead vocalist Joe Russo.  At the urging of long-time Doors and Soft Parade fan Richard Fuller I caught up with them at a September 11, 2004 performance at Jammin' Java, Vienna, Virginia.  I now see why Richard is so enthusiastic about The Soft Parade, as seeing them really does make one feel they are taking in a Jim Morrison (Joe Russo), Ray Manzarek (Mike Abel), Robby Krieger (Joe Bilotti), John Densmore (Roy Weinberger) performance of many years ago.  I would highly urge Doors fans, and a younger generation curious about what The Doors were all about to take in a Soft Parade performance.

As follows are photos from their September 11th performance.

Top photo (l-r), Mike Abel, Joe Russo, Roy Weinberger, Joe Bilotti Joe Russo (or is it Jim Morrison?) on lead vocals.
