And even more cool, Carlos sent me these pictures of Dick and legendary Ventures guitar great Nokie Edwards at the 2005 NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show. 

Yep, that is Carlos with Dick and Nokie in the top photo!

Dick talks about his teaming up with Nokie at that show as being both fun and memorable, in part because the two playing styles differ.  Nokie picks, and Dick Shreds! 

Carlos says the two guitar greats had the time of their life that night!

Dick Dale, Dusty Watson, and Sam Bolle did a major European tour in 2004 which included a stop off in Denmark.   Jan, who I met on a Surfin' To Baja with The Ventures and Los Straitjackets cruise, is such a big "Dickhead"(Dick Dale Fan) and surf guitar music lover, that he took in Dick's March 12, 2004 Rytmeposten, Odense, Denmark gig and next night awesome performance at Stengade 30, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Yes, this is the shirt that the 'well dressed' Dick Dale fan wears!  It is Dick's Tribal Thunder
shirt from the 1990's with his signature gold Fender guitar on front and awesome back graphic. But of course what make's this shirt is letting the world know "I'm A Dickhead" which equates of course to Dick Dale fan.

---TuneFan in his favorite Dick Dale Tee with Bobby Whitlock, who was a performer on the seminal release Layla (note signed LP) by Derek And The Dominos outside The Saxon Pub, Austin, Texas.  Derek And The Dominos was founded by Eric Clapton.  Bobby handled piano, acoustic guitar, vocal and songwriting duties for the group.  

You can see Bobby Whitlock performing "It's Too Late" with Derek And The Dominos on the Johnny Cash Show. The Dominos back up Eric Clapton, the great Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash on another song.  Of course Dick Dale loves Johnny Cash, having done his song Ring Of Fire for many years.

Dick was a fixture during the emerging 1960's California beach scene of sun, sand, music, and naturally pretty girls!

Dick was cast in two vintage California Frankie and Annette beach movies, including 1964's Muscle Beach Party as well as predecessor Beach Party.

Dick told me he still plays the same gold and white Fender Stratocaster guitar from the 1950's, he calls 'Beast'--and used in those flicks!

Mike Thompson, a long time friend of Dick,  constructs Dick's speaker cabinets.  Here we see cabinets containing high-end 15" JBL speakers.  Dick's guitar, "Beast" leans up against them. A perk of being a friend of Dick is getting an autographed Miserlou 45 record.  In this case Dick's cabinet maker Mike is the lucky recipient! (click to enlarge)

.                       Ex-drummer, Dusty Watson (right) with me after Dicks' 2004 Birchmere performance once played for highly regarded surf band, Jon & The Nightriders.  Dusty signed this Fiberglass Rocket CD cover after his December 16, 2004 blowout Dick Dale, Red Eyed Fly, Austin, Texas performance.  Pete Curry was also on this release, and signed it at a December 11, 2004 Los Straitjackets performance (Pete plays bass for the Straitjackets)
